Simply open the start menu, type ' %appdata% ' (without the quotes) and hit enter, at the top you should see '.minecraft' open this folder and open the folder named 'bin'.
Then open up the 'Minecraft.jar' file with a program called 'Winrar' (you can download it here: https://www.rarlab.com/) It is recommended that you make a copy of 'Minecraft.jar' before proceeding.
Now you are free to look at all of the textures, which you can edit using your favorite picture editing program.
