Windows 10 offers a simple slide show that displays one photo after another. It’s not fancy, but it’s a built-in way to show photos to friends crowding around your computer screen. Start the photos flowing across the screen in either of these two ways:

  • When in your Pictures folder, click the Manage tab and then click the Slide Show icon (shown here) from along the folder’s top.

  • When viewing a photo in the Photo app, click the Slide Show button from the row of six buttons along the photo’s top edge.

  • When viewing a single photo in Windows Photo Viewer, click the large, round Play Slide Show button (shown in the margin) from along the folder’s bottom center.

Windows immediately darkens the screen, fills the screen with the first picture, and then cycles through each picture in the folder.

  • Before starting the slide show, rotate any sideways pictures, if necessary, so that they all appear right-side up: Right-click the problem photo and choose Rotate Right (Clockwise) or Rotate Left (Counterclockwise).

  • The slide show includes only photos in your current folder. It doesn’t dip into folders inside that folder and show their photos, too.

  • Select just a few of a folder’s pictures and click the Slide Show button to limit the show to just those pictures. (Hold down Ctrl while clicking pictures to select more than one.)

  • Feel free to add music to your slide show by playing a song in Media Player before starting your show. Or, if you picked up a Hawaiian CD while vacationing on the islands, insert that in your CD player to play a soundtrack during your vacation slide show.

Desktop background slideshow or desktop wallpaper slideshow feature was first introduced with Windows 7. The feature allows users configure Windows to automatically rotate desktop background at predefined time interval.

In short, you can select a bunch of wallpapers and enable desktop slideshow feature to automatically change desktop background every minute, every 10 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour or every day. This way, you don’t need to stare at the same desktop background every time you turn on your PC.

Desktop slideshow feature is present in Windows 10 as well but the feature is not easily visible because of the omission of the classic personalization window. The desktop slideshow feature settings have been moved to the new Settings app.

Enable and configure desktop background slideshow in Windows 10

In this guide, we will see how to enable and configure desktop background slideshow feature in Windows 10.

Step 1:Right-click on the empty area of desktop and then click Personalize option to open Personalization section of Settings app.

Step 2: Click Background. Under Background section, select Slideshow from drop-down menu to enable desktop background slideshow feature.

Step 3: Now that you have enabled desktop slideshow, it’s time to choose a couple of pictures. Click the button labelled Browse under Choose albums for slideshow, and then select a folder where pictures that you want to see as desktop background are saved.

Note that all photos in the selected folder will be used to decor your desktop background. So if you have a picture or two that you don’t want to see as desktop background, please move those pictures to a different folder. Also, make sure that all pictures under the selected folder are of high-resolution.

Step 4: Finally, you need to select time interval for automatically changing desktop background, and choose a fit for desktop wallpaper. By default, Windows 10 rotates background every 30 minutes but you can change this value to 1 minute, 10 minutes, 1 hour, 6 hours, or 24 hours.
