ABC News Radio is the radio service of ABC News, a division of the ABC Television Network in the United States. Formerly known as ABC Radio News, ABC News Radio feeds, through Skyview Networks, five minute newscasts on the hour and news briefs at half-past the hour, to its network affiliates. ABC News Radio is the largest commercial radio news organization in the US.

History
Beginning in the late 1950s, ABC fed hourly newscasts to affiliates at 5 minutes before the hour, to contrast it with CBS Radio News and NBC Radio News, which sent its newscasts to affiliates at the top of each hour. On January 1, 1968, the singular ABC radio network was split into four separate and distinct programming services. The American Contemporary Network, on major-market contemporary music stations like WABC New York, aired news at 5 minutes before the hour. American Information Network news ran at the top of the hour on major-market talk and information stations like KGO San Francisco. The American FM Network, carried on major-market FM stations such as WPLJ New York, aired news geared toward young adult listeners at 15 minutes past the hour, while the American Entertainment Network had news at the bottom of the hour, often carried by AM country music stations, such as WBAP in Dallas-Fort Worth.
Before the split, ABC reached an understanding with the FCC concerning the 'Chain Broadcasting' rule, which forced the sale of the NBC Blue Network and enabled ABC's creation in 1943. Each of the four networks could be cleared only when no other ABC network was on the air in a particular market. Though each of the four new 'networks' were distributed to all member radio stations nationally over the same broadcast-quality telephone line, the move allowed ABC to have as many as four affiliates in one city — a major competitive advantage and a dramatic turning point in the history of network radio. Two additional news networks, ABC Rock and ABC Direction, were added on January 4, 1982, after the network became a satellite-delivered service. The network was strict in its insistence that there be no simultaneous broadcast of more than a single network in a market, except during crisis or special event coverage.
After the sale of most of ABC's radio assets to Citadel Broadcasting in 2007, the ABC Radio Network was operated by the broadcaster as part of the Citadel Media Networks division, and still distributed ABC News content. Citadel Broadcasting was later acquired by Cumulus Media. In July 2014, Cumulus announced that it would end its partnership with ABC News, and begin a new partnership with CNN to syndicate news content via the new Westwood One News network for its stations, beginning on January 1, 2015. In turn, ABC announced that it would take the syndication of its radio content in-house under a revived ABC Radio, with distribution handled by Skyview Networks.[1][2]
Despite many of ABC's former heritage radio properties no longer carrying any ABC programming, ABC is affiliated with some other heritage radio stations, including WTOP Washington, WLW Cincinnati, KOA Denver, KOMO Seattle, KTRS St. Louis, KSL Salt Lake City and KMBZ Kansas City. Before being acquired by Westwood One, ABC News Radio programming was available in podcast form on iHeart due to Cumulus radio stations streaming on iHeart. When Cumulus started using Westwood One/CNN for their national news, ABC News Radio's digital presence was moved exclusively to Slacker (now LiveXLive).
While some of ABC's heritage radio stations use Westwood One News for their national news provider, a few Cumulus stations formerly affiliated with ABC (example KARN-FM Little Rock) carry CBS, also distributed by Westwood One.
Format
Of the six networks, only Information, Entertainment and ABC FM News remain as separate newscast services today, with their programming delivered via satellite. The 'Information' network newscasts clear on major-market stations. 'Entertainment' network news airs mainly on small and medium-market stations. ABC FM News newscasts air on a small number of FM music stations. These ABC News Radio newscasts originate from the news division's bureaus in New York, Washington and Los Angeles and air exactly at the top of the hour. The standard format is the same for all three, with the Entertainment and FM networks having shorter stories and the Information network having slightly longer stories and more global coverage.
Individual soundbites and reporter packages are fed to stations via satellite and an affiliate website. In addition to the top-of-the-hour newscasts, ABC News also provides its radio affiliates with headlines, briefs and 'status reports' that air every ten minutes, as well as special reports, special event coverage and longform programming.
News & Comment
ABC News Radio produced News and Comment, a twice-daily long-form program hosted by broadcaster Paul Harvey, who also would read the program's commercial messages in a seamless transition. This program originated from Chicago and began its run in 1951.
On January 1, 1968, News and Comment became a part of ABC's 'American Entertainment Network', although the program was also heard on stations affiliated with the other ABC Networks, if the 'Entertainment' affiliate was not as powerful as another ABC affiliate in a given market. A five-minute long spin-off voiced by Harvey, The Rest of the Story, began in May 1976 and was offered to affiliates in the late afternoons, as well as on Saturday mornings.
After Paul Harvey's death on February 28, 2009, San Francisco-based broadcaster Gil Gross was appointed as the new host of News and Comment, while the Rest of the Story time slot was held by Doug Limerick. Shortly after their appointments, however, Mike Huckabee was hired to host his own thrice-daily commentary program, The Huckabee Report, offered to stations that had been carrying both programs in the same time slots. This program, however, was produced by the former ABC Radio Network, at that point rebranded as Citadel Media, eventually becoming Cumulus Media and finally Westwood One. Huckabee took over distribution of the program himself as a digital-only feature in 2015.

ABC News is the news division of the American Broadcasting Company (ABC), owned by the Disney Media Networks division of The Walt Disney Company. Its flagship program is the daily evening newscast ABC World News Tonight with David Muir; other programs include morning news-talk show Good Morning America, Nightline, Primetime, and 20/20, and Sunday morning political affairs program This Week with George Stephanopoulos.
ABC News (Australian radio network)
ABC News (formerly ABC NewsRadio) is an Australian Broadcasting Corporation 24-hour news radio service. It is available on a number of broadcasts around Australia, including AM/FM radio, some pay-TV platforms and online.
Originally called the Parliamentary and News Network (PNN), the AM/FM radio network is chartered to broadcast live the proceedings of parliament, either the House of Representatives or the Senate, as specified by the standing orders. Also broadcast, at the end of each day's sitting, is a recording of Question Time for the chamber that was not broadcast live that day. These restrictions do not apply to the other broadcasts of Newsradio.
Parliamentary broadcasting was commenced by Ben Chifley's government on 10 July 1946, on ABC Radio. These broadcasts received their own frequencies in the 1980s as PNN. The PNN/ABC NewsRadio service was introduced in August 1994 to use the Parliamentary broadcasting frequencies which were not being used when Parliament was not in session.
ABC News has a 24-hour news format, including extensive finance, science and IT reports, as well as extended reports from the ABC's local and international news sources. ABC News also rebroadcasts international programming from the BBC, DW-Radio, Radio Netherlands and All Things Considered from NPR. On AM and FM radio, ABC News also broadcasts Australian Football League matches on weekends in New South Wales and Queensland, where the National Rugby League is the more popular football competition and thus is broadcast on ABC Local Radio services in those two states.
ABC News callsigns for stations on the AM radio band are always xPB, where x is the number denoting the particular state or territory and PB stands for Parliamentary Broadcasting. ABC NewsRadio stations on the FM radio band use callsigns of the format xPNN.
ABC News also uses resources from around the world such as news bulletins and programs from the BBC.
From September 2001, the 24-hour news format began live audio streaming on the Internet. When Parliament is in session, listeners who have Internet access may still receive the NewsRadio service even when the NewsRadio network is broadcasting Parliamentary proceedings over the air. From 2004, this was extended to FTA digital satellite and subscription TV services. In 2009, separate standard and parliamentary feeds were launched on digital terrestrial (DAB+) radio in the state capitals.
FM transmission was expanded greatly during a 2006-2009 program. It planned to increase the AM/FM coverage from 78% of the population to 95%.
In November 2016, the ABC announced that ABC NewsRadio and ABC News 24 rebranded as ABC News on 10 April 2017.

David BlausteinDavid Blaustein is a former entertainment correspondent and movie critic for ABC News Radio and frequent contributor to ABC News Now.
Blaustein attended Buffalo State College at which time he landed his first professional radio job with WWKB-AM as a board operator and talk radio producer. While at WWKB-AM, he was offered his first professional on-air gig as a lifestyles reporter for WWKB's sister station, WKSE-FM (KISS 98.5). Blaustein continued to attend college full-time, work at both radio stations and create and co-host a popular talk show on the campus radio station, WBNY-FM, called 'Misinformation.' Mr. Blaustein's co-host was novelist Micah Nathan, author of Simon and Schuster's Gods of Aberdeen.
Blaustein once served as a radio Producer for Alan Colmes of the Fox News Channel's Hannity and Colmes, and nationally syndicated radio personality Barry Farber.
Blaustein has conducted countless celebrity interviews, broken several major entertainment stories, covered the red carpet at the Oscars and has written and produced nearly 20 one-hour entertainment related radio specials.

KDHLKDHL (920 AM, 'The Mighty 920') is a radio station broadcasting a Classic Country format. Licensed to Faribault, Minnesota, United States, the station is currently owned by Townsquare Media and features programming from ABC News Radio.On August 30, 2013, a deal was announced in which Townsquare Media would acquire 53 stations from Cumulus Media, including KDHL, for $238 million. The deal was part of Cumulus' acquisition of Dial Global; Townsquare and Dial Global were both controlled by Oaktree Capital Management. The sale to Townsquare was completed on November 14, 2013.
KFBXKFBX is a commercial radio station programming talk in Fairbanks, Alaska, broadcasting on 970 AM. It airs hourly news updates through ABC News Radio. It is owned and operated by iHeartMedia, Inc.

KMBZ (AM)
KMBZ (980 kHz; 'Talk 980'), is a commercial AM radio station licensed to Kansas City, Missouri. KMBZ is owned by Entercom Communications and it airs a talk radio format. Its studios and transmitter tower are in suburban Mission, Kansas, at separate locations.
After a local morning drive time news show, simulcast with co-owned 98.1 KMBZ-FM, KMBZ's weekday schedule is made up of nationally syndicated talk programs including Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Tom Sullivan, Joe Pags, Laura Ingraham and Coast to Coast AM with George Noory. World and national news is supplied at the beginning of each hour by ABC News Radio. Weekend programming includes shows on money, health, computers and cooking. Some weekend hours are paid brokered programming. KMBZ's sister station, KMBZ-FM, airs mostly local talk shows.
KMBZ operates at 5,000 watts around the clock. It uses a non-directional antenna by day; at night, however, it broadcasts using a directional antenna to protect other stations on AM 980 from interference. On January 14, 2015, KMBZ was granted an FCC construction permit to move to the KCCV transmitter site and increase the daytime power to 9,000 watts. Its signal covers the Kansas City metropolitan area, including parts of Missouri and Kansas.
KMGRKMGR (99.1 FM) is a radio station licensed to Nephi, Utah, United States. The station is broadcasting a soft adult contemporary format, and is an affiliate of ABC News Radio. It serves the Provo-Orem metropolitan area. The station is currently owned by Sanpete County Broadcasting Company.
The station has a construction permit to increase ERP to 100,000 watts, changing class type to C1; its present license is Class A. This would provide the station with coverage into Provo, Utah and parts of the southern Salt Lake valley.

WHMI-FMWHMI-FM is a radio station broadcasting at 93.5 FM in Howell, Michigan. WJIM (AM)WJIM (1240 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station licensed to Lansing, Michigan. It is owned by Townsquare Media and broadcasts a talk radio format. It is also the flagship station of the Michigan Talk Network. Studios and offices are on Pinetree Road in Lansing.
Weekdays begin with 'The Steve Gruber Show,' heard on WJIM since March 2012 and also airing on other stations around the state via the Michigan Talk Network. WNAWWNAW (1230 AM) is a radio station broadcasting an Adult Contemporary format. Licensed to North Adams, Massachusetts, United States, the station serves northern Berkshire County. The station is owned by Townsquare Media (through licensee subsidiary Townsquare Media Pittsfield License, LLC), and features programming from ABC News Radio.In August 2013, Gamma Broadcasting reached a deal to sell its Berkshire County radio stations, including WNAW, to Reed Miami Holdings; the sale was canceled on December 30, 2013. In October 2016, Gamma agreed to sell its stations to Galaxy Communications; that sale also fell through, and in 2017 the stations were acquired by Townsquare Media.
WOSHWOSH (branded as NewsTalk 1490) is a radio station serving the Oshkosh, Wisconsin area with a News/Talk format from the ABC News Radio network. This station broadcasts on AM frequency 1490 kHz and is under ownership of Cumulus Media. During the late 1960s until 1975, WOSH was the leading Top 40 radio station in the Appleton-Oshkosh market; in the summer of 1975, WOSH's Top 40 format was moved to its sister FM operation at 103.9, with Jonathon Brandmeier as the station's star disc jockey, and WOSH-FM's Country and Western music format was placed on 1490 AM, with the new call sign WYTL applied. In 1984, the call sign WOSH was reinstated to 1490 and the current news/talk format established. WOSH also broadcast a UHF TV signal under WOSH-TV 48 for a time.
WXHCWXHC (101.5 FM, 'X101') is a radio station broadcasting a classic hits format. Licensed to Homer, New York, United States, the station is owned by Eves Broadcasting, Inc. and features programming from ABC News Radio.
